Classes for file plans can be defined in System Admin > Information Modeling > Classes & Attributes > File Plan Components. File Plan component classes can carry user-defined attributes in the same way as other AssetWise objects. Each class can represent a different level of a file plan.

If multiple file plans are needed, the parent class can represent file plans themselves. It may be convenient to create child classes such as categories and grandchildren such as sub-categories. Inheritance of attributes down such a family tree can be closely controlled and modified at any time, simply by exposing the class attributes and toggling inheritance on or off. The process for creating file plan component classes conforms to the creation of all other classes.
